I went into programs and uninstalled the previous install of trial version. Installed my local copy and valid license key. I see it is now activated. Everytime you open word/excel/outlook - the office 365 message pops up to start trial, buy or activate. I looked in apps - there isn't get office app to disable, I delete reg key per someone's Find the Word application file (or any MS Office application file); the default directory is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11". Right-click the application file (it should have an extension of ".exe") and select "Run as administrator". Click OK on the pop-up prompt, accept the EULA, and exit the program. Try opening it again,

As I have already bought Microsoft Office 2019 I should have this for life. I restored my computer to an earlier date and the problem was fixed with Microsoft Office 2019 working again. However, I just opened Word again and it is trying to force me to buy 365 again, something I do not need or want.

This seemed to do it for me. Take a look at Windows Task Scheduler. I just started running into this issue after some recent updates and it's extremely aggravating. For me it seems to be Microsoft Office running a POS background task that flags a window to open and steal focus. Until they get it patched, I've just disabled the office background
